On June 19, 2026, the online cinema Okko unveiled the teaser poster for the documentary series Soldiers of Half-Life. The Nuclear Secret of the USSR. The project was presented on stage at the "Pilot" series festival, in its documentary competition. It is directed by Vladislav Kuznetsov and co-produced by the studio Matterica. A release date has not yet been announced.
What the series is about
The series is based on declassified materials about the only military exercises in Soviet history to use nuclear weapons. In 1954, in the Orenburg region, 45,000 servicemen gathered at the Totskoye proving ground. Under the command of Marshal Georgy Zhukov, an atomic bomb of about 40 kilotons was detonated. The series examines what is known about the true scale and consequences of that experiment. It runs three episodes of 48 minutes each and carries an 18+ rating.
